Stevie Moore Prepares for Worlds

Stevie
From the February 12th, 2008 Issue

Stevie Moore is on her way to Worlds! She has made the Triathlon Canada's 2008 World Championship Team.

Stevie qualified to represent Canada at the Triathlon Worlds Championships at Vancouver in June 2008. She trains at the Manitoba National Triathlon Centre in Winnipeg, under the coach Gary Pallett. She trains for the sport's three disciplines of 'swim, bike and run' which typically consumes five hours of her day, six days a week. It involves pool or lake swimming, biking indoors at the University of Manitoba and at Birds Hill in the summer, running at the indoor track at the University or long runs outside. Included is strength and conditioning with Kari Schneider the trainer for the National men's and women's volleyball teams, also the owner and founder of Empower Lifestyle and Conditioning.

Stevie also goes to training camps at other National Centres across the country in Florida, Arizona and Colorado for gruelling intense two week phases. She has attended the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Canadian junior elite Nationals for the past two years and the USA junior elite Nationals in Colorado, in the Sprint distance, comprising of a consecutive 750 m swim, 20 km bike (drafting/slip-stream legal), and then a 5 km run.

She attends grade 12 at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg and is in the Sports and Arts Program. This program enables high performance student athletes to pursue their sport goals while maintaining a high academic standing, where she can customize her school schedule around her training, attends sport workshops, listens to Olympic guest speakers and a teacher advisor that acts as the student's advocate, makes necessary arrangements regarding homework and assignments with travelling.

Stevie aspires in pursuing this amazingly strenuous lifestyle so she can achieve her utmost potential in this multi-sport discipline that she loves doing.

Congratulations Stevie!
